speedup, it is very difficult to greatly increase the output of a diesel locomotive in a range of the present car gauge and axle load limitation of SRT.

 

Therefore, it is considered that speedup by a diesel rail car is suitable as a motive power system.

 

(3) Appearance and passenger room design

 

Figures 4.2-3 and 4.2-4 show two design plans of a new Sprinter. It is necessary to adopt an appearance and design matching with the image of Northern Line connecting the capital Bangkok and the international sightseeing city Chiang Mai and suitable for the typical train of SRT.

 

Various types of passengers including domestic and foreign tourists, business visitors, and general passengers are expected. Therefore, it is desirable to prepare a first class passenger cars in addition to second class passenger cars, moreover prepare a telephone room, a lounge, and a large-baggage storage place as passenger room equipment, and target bus passengers and even airplane passengers.

 

Moreover, according to the result of future study, it is considered to prepare a buffet, observation room, and private room.

 

(4) Main specifications of car

 

Table 4.2-4 shows the comparison of main specifications between new Sprinter and existing Sprinter.

 

1) Car dimensions

 

Must be kept in the range of the present car gauge of SRT. It is estimated that a new Sprinter has dimensions following those of the existing Sprinter.

 

2) Body

 

It is preferable to form a body with colorless lightweight stainless steel by considering weight reduction and maintainability.
